Has anyone been about to get a secured loan from a New Jersey bank? I had my Chapter 7 discharged in April, and now I have about $1,000 I can use to buy a CD and secure a bank loan. Does anyone know what banks in the state might be the best to approach about this?

Is NY close enough. I got my secured loan thru Chase Manhattan. But you know what, are you near a Summit Bank. I would try them or First Union. Make sure they report it.

Thanks, Roni. There are both a Chase and a Summit in my town.

I was going to try to open a checking account at Chase, but they said they won't accept any negative ChexSystems going back seven years. I don't know if they have the same policy for CDs and secured loans.

Maybe I'll stop by Summit and see what they have to say.

NO, Chase doesnot open accounts if you are in chexsystem and without an account you cant get a secured loan. Summit also uses chexsystem. They are the bank that reported me. Oh well. I know First Union does. I cant think of a single bank in NJ or NY which doesnot use it. Good LUck.
