I just got declined by Dell (Citibank issues their card) because I don't have a residential land line telephone. I have 3 cell phones, but I choose not to do business with Qwest. What's the next reason for rejection - they don't like the brand of gas I put in my car?
The forecast calls for weirdness, with occasional bursts of cow manure... Perhaps they are worried about residency - people w/no landlines are unreliable, move around a lot, can't be located... Is there a person to speak about this absurdity? Maybe a collection of utility bills, dated as far back as possible, to prove residency and stability?
Guess I won't apply with them ever. I work for Cingular and have no use for a landline acct. I get all the minutes I need with my cell. Thanks for the heads up.
I wonder if this is why I was denied a Lowe's card...the reason given was 'Unable to verify phone number'. I only have a cell phone as well.
I got one worse than that... Pizza Hut wouldn't give me a pizza because I was couldn't call them from a landline phone. Seriously... I haven't had a landline phone for years now and this was my first experience with cell phone discrimination. That's pretty absurd. I had Dominoes, BTW.
How's this for stability - I own my home. I don't rent. And Landlines can be not answered or disconnected as easily as cell phones - with no penalties.
Gotcha beat. Pappa John's wouldn't sell me a pizza because I refused to give them my phone number. I wasn't calling in an order, I was standing at the counter in the store with cash in my hand. I went next door and had Sushi instead.
Re: Re: No Cell Phone Owners Need Apply They'd never get my business again after an incident like that. They'd be giving me free pizza after I called headquarters.
Re: Re: No Cell Phone Owners Need Apply Two answers. 1. Ask the clerk's what is yours? Gee, we have the same number. 2. 3 I was one of the first to ever get a phone.
ONE OF THE CELL PHONE COMPANIES ADVERTISES ALL THE TIME---"it is time to drop your HOME PHONE and use your CELL PHONE as your only phone" I WORK WITH A BUNCH OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE DONE JUST THAT!!!!
Re: Re: Re: No Cell Phone Owners Need Apply The PIZZA HUT in our parking lot uses their own number for people who don't have one or refuse to give it (SINCE THEY ORDERED IT WHEN THEY WALKED IN THE DOOR) TO-GO...
Re: Re: Re: Re: No Cell Phone Owners Need Apply OK, so now we need a phone number to order pizza. What's next, credit checks?
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: No Cell Phone Owners Need Apply The PHONE NUMBER DEAL is so they can keep you "ON FILE"... THEY CAN PUT YOUR PREFERENCES (THE USUAL)...AND IF YOU ARE GOING TO USE A CREDIT CARD OR CHECK OR IF YOU HAVE EXACT CHANGE ALL THE TIME OR IF YOU ARE A GOOD CUSTOMER AND GIVE THEM FREE BREAD STICKS OR WHAT-EVER...
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: No Cell Phone Owners Need Apply XXX-XXXX OH THIS IS WAL*MART...I OWE YOU A BUNCH OF FREE PIZZAS FOR ALL THE CHANGE YOU GIVE US... I'LL GIVE YOU TWO FREE IF YOU BUY ONE...
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: No Cell Phone O They probably want a land line number so they can telemarket you. They aren't allowed to telemarket cell phones. And if you don't pay your bill, they can't call and harass you on a cell phone. And remember, one of the exemptions to the no-call list is companies that you do business with. So they can telemarket and need a land line to do it.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: No Cell Phone O So they are turning down a certain $2000 sale because they can't telemarket me where a 2% success rate is a resounding triumph? That sounds like the kind of economics that Enron invented.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: No Cell Phone O Remember when you had to give your name, address and phone number....just so you could buy some batteries at Radio Shack? That was so they could clog up your mail box with catalogs. It turned people off so much, and took so long just to pay at the counter, that Radio Shack finally discontinued the practice, or at least some of them have.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: No Cell Phone O Now they just ask for your zip code. Flyingifr, I never said it made sense. I don't even know if it's true or not, just seemed like one logical explanation to me.
