I picked up BofA credit card application and they're no longer issue Mastercard and they don't have any Mastercard application on ther websites. They only issue Visa like Bank One or Fleet Bank. Ron.
I don't know and they decided not to issue MC like Fleet Bank. I have Mastercard for over two years and I don't think they changed mine into Visa. Ron.
Many banks switch back and forth between Visa and Mastercard like they change their underwear! Right now, Visa offers more online fraud protection than Mastercard with "Verified with Visa". (check out Visa.com for more info.) Also, Visa offers more "benefits" for using their card than Mastercard (at least according to the visa and mastercard websites). Because of this, more banks are switching their credit cards and debit cards from Mastercard to Visa. Even Wells Fargo used to offer Mastercard for debit cards are now offering Visa. It's better protection for you and the bank, plus more benefits for you. Now, if your EXISTING card is a Mastercard, it will REMAIN a mastercard. But for all new accounts, they will be Visa.
(1) Bank of America originated the Visa, then known as "BankAmericard," I believe in the 1960's. They have a stronger emotional attachment to Visa than to MasterCard. (2) There may be advantages to some banks, or to their customers, in issuing only Visas. But Citibank and Chase apparently see advantages in issuing mostly MasterCards.
Yes. they do!. Below is the link. I was approved last april for their Platinum MC http://www.bankofamerica.com/creditcards/index.cfm?template=cc_mc_plat_99.cfm
A few weeks ago, BOFA sent a notice indicating a change from MasterCard to Visa. All cards were sent out during the week of the 14th. CardKid
BofA was one of the founding banks of the Visa association (remember BankAmericard?) & they continue to have a STRONG relationship & influence within the Visa governing board of directors. Visa & MasterCard have been aggressively trying to strike deals with the big banks both on their credit & debit/ATM products. A couple of years ago MasterCard wooed Citibank away from Visa and American Express to issue MasterCard-only branded debit & credit cards. I believe the only Visa product issued by Citi is the Visa Signature card. I don't think its a "better technology" (Verified by Visa vs. MasterCard's fraud protection). Better terms for the banks means cost savings to their bottom line. Visa & MasterCard are associations that spend 'mega $$$' to cater to their member banks. Just my 2 cents. I used to work for one of the card networks.
Did you look at the application part itself cause when I applied you had to checkmark a box on the application if you wanted a mastercard instead. Also on the online application itself there is a place to apply for the mastercard though it's not advertised elseware.
