just got word from friend who works at citi. they are discontinuing the sony citi card. several hundred thousand customers sony accounts are being sold to another company they haven't said which one yer. the others will be converted to another type of citi card. the friend i spoke to said this will not be happening any time soon but maybe within next six months. she said the reps have not been trained on it yet and know nothing about it. so if you call and ask anybody they will not know about it. she also said the reason it is happening is because sony and citi are discontinuing there relationship with each other. i wouldnt worry though i know chase used to operate a sony card as well. they may be sold to them. as soon as i get more info i will post it. but you may want to use youre sony points as soon as possible they will be cancelled 90 days from the time the card is changed.
I believe it is a 10 year branding contract that's about to expire... Most CSR's knew about it through the "Grapevine" at Citibank. The AT&T Universal Card buy out and name agreement should end in a few more years, and you can bet that Citi will do some re-naming when that time comes.
I have Sony Citi Card for over two yrs and I like the card. It is one of my favorite card and I guess I need to redeem all my points soon. First my Click Citi is gone and now my Sony Citi Card will be gone. Ron.
When something like this happens is there a chance you'll be without a card? and not transferred to a new one?
No. Unless of course, your payment history looks like "alphabet soup"(as reps jokingly call it), accounts consisting of the credit bureau A's, B's, C's, along with 1's, 2's, and 3's. If that were the case your card would have been closed by the bank already.
