WFNNB was listing on my credit report that I owed them $395 and it was charged off. They sold the debt to Asset Acceptance. Experian just informed me that Asset Acceptance was deleted off my credit report and they are sending me documentation stating so. However, it is actually still on my personal report from Experian.com (but not on my Privacy Guard report). That's another story though. Anyway, I contacted WFNNB and disputed that I owed them money. They replied with a contract that was not legible but nonetheless, a contract. I told them that they proved I had an account with them but that does nothing to prove I owe them any money. Well, they turned around and updated my Experian credit report to reflect NO STATUS. I am just wondering if I should leave this alone or continue trying to get it removed completely. Does it hurt my score at all? I figure, I can either leave it alone, send Experian one final letter that I want the account removed since WFNNB obviously doesn't have any proof I owe them anything and therefore Experian should have removed the account after the first two investigations, or I can contact WFNNB directly and basically state the same thing.
As far as I know (and I have one). No status does not affect your score in anyway. It's not counted as either positive or negative, even though it may show as possibly negative. From what I remember and I know there are a few threads around here about it, NO STATUs is easily defendable. If there is no status in regards to this account, how can they report it? They know nothing about the status, so they should remove it right? Yeah.. try telling my no status that! Good luck getting it removed. To be successful, you have to be either lucky or determined. Everything will eventually come off if you dispute it enough.
I love CreditNet but I do have one beef. I wish when you do a search, you could search for a phrase vs. a message with two words. For instance, "no status" instead of a message that contains the word "no" and the word "status" unless I am just an idiot and can't figure out how to do it. Anyway, I think I can get it removed if I try hard enough. WFNNB obviously has no documentation to support that I owe them money because they wouldn't have updated it to no status. Therefore, when I disputed the account with Experian, they were required, under law, according to the case of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA v. PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT, INC. (Central District of California, Southern Division, File No. 982-3542, August 24, 2000), to delete the listing in 5 days. Instead, 90 days later, they update it to NO STATUS. This is a violation of 15 U.S.C. § 1681s-2(b) and therefore, they can either be sued or remove the account. I guess I can send out one more letter to try to get it removed but it is currently under dispute again with Experian until May 21 so I was going to wait until then (to see if it gets removed). I was just wondering if I should go through the hassle since it doesn't really hurt anything. I guess it is really a personal decision if it doesn't do anything to your credit score.
