Nordstrom Dept. Store

Well I took a chance yesterday and applied for a Nordstrom credit card. I had vowed not to do it but when I telephoned the credit department to inquire I was somewhat encouraged by the rep to apply. She tols me that as far as she knows a 2 year old BK does not disqualify me. According to her, the amount of new credit I have obtained the last 2 years and kept up to date on the payments would be the decision point not the BK.

Therefore, I applied over the phone. She also gave me an 800 number to call back if I have not heard in 10 days.

I am still kind of doubtful but there was enough encouragement here to take the chance and apply. I'll let you know what happens.

    Hey Jim!

    Good luck.

I did the same thing before I applied for the Nextcard about 2 weeks ago - talked to a rep about my chances with a BK on my credit report. Nextcard actually has online reps that you can chat with.

She gave me the encouragement to apply!
    I did!
And was approved with a $3,300 limit @9.9%

    Hope it all works out!

    Thanks. I applied because

the rep seemed to actually know the policy. If the rep had said she didn't know the policy and had not given me an 800 # to call I would be certain that a denial and a free Experian report would be coming my way.

BTW when I asked what CRA Nordstrom checks; she said Experian.

    RE: Thanks. I applied because

I'm thinking positive, Jim. I bet you're approved.

Hmmm....Experian though...that's probably my worst report. Guess I'd better shy away from the Nordstrom card for a while.

    Please keep us posted.

    Thanks again.

That is really interesting. I will contact Nextcard later on when my BK is a little more distant and Junum has cleaned up my credit some more.

Chet, did Nextcard have you verify anything such as income or ask to see your discharge papers?

    Jim,

Let me know how this works out. Nordstorm (a Visa) was one of the few creditors I felt bad about during my Chapter 7. It's one of the few I'd be willing to pay back in order to have a Nordstorm card again.

    Chet,

How long ago was the BK?

    I know the feeling. Experian

shows 4 Bk related negative items. TU only has 2 negatives. I have 28 positive items on Experian.

When we discussed my post BK tradelines, I informed her they consist of 4 visa cards, 1 auto loan and 1 paid secured loan from the credit union. She said the Macy's and Robinsons-May accounts that survived the Bk were unimportant in the credit granting decision.

You've got 28 positives on Experian? That's great!

I think I have 11 positive accounts, with a couple tradelines that should be showing up soon.

Experian has been the hardest of the three bureaus to crack and I've been hounding them for over a year now. Progress is sooo slow! Most of the time...and this has been so from the start...I don't think they bother to verify.

For example, in December, I disputed some items and received the customary we-re-investigating response. Then, two days later, the investigation results reached my mailbox. Everything came back verified. Some investigation, huh? This go round, I hope my luck is better.

    Wishing you luck with Nordstroms.

Experian has been of major con

to me because the Experian report is so much more detailed than the TU or Equifax reports. I get the impression that they are trying to outperform the other 2 CRA's.

RE: Experian has been of major

Agreed. They definitely pack a lot of info onto our credit reports and, to be sure, not all of it is accurate. At least for me, getting them to make changes is like pulling teeth!

Basically, I'm stuck with a paid charge off and a few late pays. (Fortunately, I've been able to get some late pays off.)

Experian won't budge on the paid charge off...it's two years old...and the last date of activity is wrong. It's about 9 months off and I know that's got to be hurting my score. If only I could get that confounded thing off! Or at least showing more positively.

But, looking on the bright side, at least there's evidence that I'm making progress. Finally, I'm starting to get some decent cards.

I am waiting for round 2 resul

from Junum ( due in March). I may switch to Lexington at that time to clear out these hard to remove items. First, though I want to hear what is happening with Kelly and Lexington.

    Jim,

I sure hope your second round of disputing is successful.

I too hope Lexington comes through for Kelly and you, too, if you decide to give them a try.

Regrettably, my experience with Lexington wasn't positive...I've already posted about that here...but I'm glad others are getting better results.
