I have spent what feels like lot of time for a newbie (8 months of writing and researching) working on my credit report, but other than a few cosmetic changes (correcting address and SS variations), I just can't seem to get anything deleted. Here is the story. I have 3 charge offs (Cap 1, Assoc Citi, and Universal Citi) on my reports and I continue to dispute them, but they keep getting verified. I have sent 3 letters (30days, 15days, 48 hours) to the OCs, and 3 to (Universal Citi) to the CA (Credit One LLC). I started before I found this board and didn't send the letters certified mail till my final 48 hour round. I forward all the letters to the CRAs and they just keep verifying the accounts. I am willing to stick it out of the long run, so here is my question. Should I just start the whole process over again using certified mail or should I use some other tactic? Should I just keep making the same â??not mineâ? dispute with the same evidence each month till they (CRAs) budge? Oh btw I got copies of previous statements from Assoc Citi in response to my validation letter, should I use them as evidence of only partial validation with the CRA, or just tell them that they didn't respond (donâ??t want to give them anything to use against me??? As you can tell Iâ??m still not all too versed in disputing. I just need advice from the experts so that I can one day own a used car at a decent interest rate (really tired of walking). At what point do I give up and try to compromise? I would do it, but I want to exhaust my options and I donâ??t trust creditors to honor their agreements even if they sign a contact. Finally, could someone direct me to this newbie thread that I have heard so much about, I havenâ??t been able to locate it. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

So basically you found this board months ago, and this is your first post? Among this board's "INTRO" posts are suggestions that you introduce yourself at the start and seek help. If you'd done that, I seriously doubt anyone would have suggested you do some of the things you did ("keep making the same 'not mine' dispute with the same evidence each month," etc.). Perhaps you should start at the beginning again. Study the INTRO posts closely. Then post a clearer summary of what's on your reports and what specific steps you've taken so far with each tradeline. Somehow I think you've forgotten the "interactive" part of this process -- Creditnet isn't a credit repair book. Sorry for being so tough on you, but you're so far into a process, and this is your first post (!).

    Doc

Postscript... I just reread your post, and you didn't say you've been on this board for 8 months, just that you've been engaged in the process for 8 months. If that's the case, WELCOME to Creditnet, lol! Still, read the first few posts atop this board labeled "INTRO" as well as some of the links you'll find contained therein. Keep reading the board. Also, do provide that more specific summary of your situation, and keep interacting. :)

Thank you for responding. I will take your advice (read more Intro posts), and be as harsh as you need to be, I'd rather get the right information instead of having people be nice :) Here is my detailed description (didn't want to lay out the long boring story):

Capital One bank - charge off in 10/2001 about $1600
10/2002: Sent 30 day validation letter - no response (not certified mail)
    Sent CRA disputes - verifed
3/2003: Sent 30 day validation letter - no response (not certified mail)
    Sent CRA disputes - verifed
4/2003: Sent 15 day validation letter - no response (not certified mail)
4/2003: 15 days later - sent 48 hour validation letter (certified mail) Found this Forum

Associated Citibank - charge off in 4/2001 about $1400
10/2002: Sent 30 day validation letter - no response (not certified mail)
    Sent CRA disputes - veirfed
3/2003: Sent 30 day validation letter - no response (not certified mail)
    Sent CRA disputes - verifed
4/2003: Sent 15 day validation letter - no response (not certified mail)
4/2003: 15 days later - sent 48 hour validation letter (certified mail) Found this Forum

Universal Citibank - charge off 7/2001 about $1100
being reported by Credit One LLC on credit reports

3/2003: Sent 30 day validation letter - no response (not certified mail)
    Sent CRA disputes - verifed
4/2003: Sent 15 day validation letter - no response (not certified mail)
4/2003: 15 days later - sent 48 hour validation letter (certified mail) Found this Forum

So I have copies of all my letters, but only receipts from my last recent round of validation letters. Where should I go from here? I just got a letter from my online dispute with trans union that since they verified the debt the dispute was frivolous.

From my readings of the FCRA and FDCPA, unless you live in a state that says otherwise, the OC's don't need to validate. I've been lead to believe that they may undert the FCBA, but I haven't got a good handle on that yet.
I'd recomend reading the FDCPA and FCRA untill you feel you have a good grasp of them. they're not that difficult to follow, and after a few readings you'll have a good grasp of everything. That way you'll be able to get a paper trail of violations while also following the tried and true process as described by Doc in his primer.

Hopefully we can do both. :)

    First welcome to the board.

I'd like to see ya take a little break right now. Let things relax a bit and give yourself time to catch up on some studying.

As time goes on we will help develop a strategy for dealing with cases that are in progress but stalled.

I'm not a huge fan of starting all over again from scratch because we lose credability. But, as Doc pointed out, since you lack proof of your disputes starting over may be wise.

Anyway, take your time and ask a lot of questions.

    :)

Thanks for all the feedback...I spent all of Saturday and Sunday reading the Primer and have done a lot of searches over the past 2 weeks. I can say that I do feel addicted to getting these negative notations off my report, but I will take your advice and curb my enthusiasm and instead figure out the best plan of action.

The reason I am dealing with the OC is that it has been a long time since a CA has tried to collect on the account and I do have letters from them from a long time ago and have contacted them to validate as well (for all 3 accounts mentioned before), but since I also said to cease and desist, they have validated or tried to collect. I don't even know if they are still responsible for collecting the account(s). So that is why I have also been contacting the OC. Now if the OC does not need to validate, then what strategy should I use with them, namely Capital One and Assoc/Citi?

"they have validated or tried to collect. " so sorry, just re-read and noticed the error. They have NOT validated/responded or tried to collect (sent any collection letters or phone calls).

Different CAs have tried to collect on the same debt, so I don't really know which CA to go after with letters (though I did sent validation letters to them), so instead I thought I'd go after the OCs, but since they don't have to validate, then I'm at a loss.
