Canâ??t blame anyone but myself. I pay all my bills online so if anything comes in the mail it generally gets ignored, which brings me to the problem at hand. I had ordered something over the net with a visa card I had. The company was to charge the Visa card 50 bucks a month for 3 months interest free. Well my wallet was stolen and all my credit cards had to be replaced. The billing company could no longer get there money and sent me a bill in the mail. As with most snail mail I never got it, ignored or tossed it in a corner for a rainy day. Here comes that rainy day, I finally got a minute to go through my mail and found balance due statement. So I called the company to pay the bill and was told my account was sent to collection. I asked if I could take care of the problem over the phone and was told a collection agency would be contacting. So I asked again if there was anyway this could be resolved. The accounts lady put me on hold for a second, comeback and said since I had not been contacted the collection agency yet I could go ahead and mail the payment in. My question is should I? Should I mail the money in or wait for the collection agency to contact me? Thanks for any help.
Get yourself a papertrail. Call back and get a get a manager on the phone, tell them what happened and let them know you are sending in payment, but you want it all done in writing to protect yourself. I am guessing you can do it all by fax if needed. If not, ask them to log that in their computers and write down who you talked to as well. Send it CMRR and wait for them to get back to you. Hopefully they will have the brains to want to retain your future business and it should be a done deal. Keep an eye on your credits reports and if something goes awry, you have documentation from them to back you up.
