I seem to remember someone writing sometime that the time limit on reporting negatives is five years if you live in New York State. Does anyone know if this is true?

    Thanks.

It is only true for PAID collections, chargeoffs and judgements. I will try to find the info on my bookmarks and edit in a link for you.

    ***EDIT***

Here is the link to the NY Laws regarding this...

    http://assembly.state.ny.us/leg/?cl=44&a=53

You'll have to read it to see where, but it is in there.

Does a paid collection included settled for less than owed?

I hope so. I have a settled collection from Sears that I want off.

That's better than 7 years but it's still 2 years to long!

You can't pay less than owed because if you did it's not paid .

Judgments should not even be reported.I thought only accurate information could be reported:False judgments sure as H___ aren't accurate!

    It's here:

I had no idea that EACH State has it's own Fair Credit Reporting act - I thought that was a federal thing. I wonder if the credit reporting agencies pay attention to this.

Does anyone know which state has the shortest time limitations for paid collections and charge-offs? What if any requirements are there to be a resident of that state? I'm thinking of moving. :)

    Thanks in advance,
    dt

LOL, Kristy, seriously, never move to Ohio, though.

If you plan to default on debts, move to Texas, hahahahahaha!!

If you are retired and want to preserve your pension, move to AZ - they will not let other states tax it.
