OC and CA both reporting same debt & collections deletes

I am in full swing of repairing both mine and my wife's credit. It may sound crazy but it is starting to get fun. I am making progress and enjoying it. I have a few questions though that I could not find answers to with search or stickies...

    1. My wife has a couple of accounts where the original creditor has a debt listed on her credit report and then it is listed again under a collection agency. The OC has a statement like "sold to another lender / charged off". Can they legally report the same debt under different companies? Seems like it should only be reported once?

    2. has anyone been successful at getting paid collections removed? I think my strategy is going to be to start out very nicely sending letters to the CA asking for it to be removed and then increase my "nutcase" approach to a fever pitch? Of course this would be after I have tried with the CRA's. Is that too much over the top? WHat strategy has worked for others?

    Thanks

Yes, the CA and OC can both report negatives on your credit reports. It's actually quite common. And yes, you could be successful in getting a paid collection removed. Dispute any inaccuracies through the CRAs first, and you might just get lucky. Good luck!
