Since a particular CA believes that it is "untruthful" to delete for payment, I'm writing a letter to the OC (Chase) to let them know that I've offered to make payment. So what department should I direct my letter to?

What do you hope to accomplish with this letter? Deletion of the derog? Elimination of the debt? What relationship does the CA have with the OC? Is the debt sold or assigned?

I am not sure who you would direct the letter to, since I am not clear what you want to say ... When you know what you want to say...I can tell you who to say it to :))

CA was assigned debt..I've been offering them settlement for deletion. I just wanted to write to Chase and let them know I'm offering to pay, but only if they delete (or update to "Paid").

I would send such a letter to Chase via PFB and see what results you get back. Tell them how much you have tried (in vain) to work with the CA to get this paid and finally cleared up. Offer to work with Chase to clear the matter up, and make it seem like you are willing to make this a clean and painless settlement. Since the debt was assigned this may work well.

Chase should be interested because they would be able to escape the CA's fees while booking revenue this year, on last years charged off debt. After all if the CA collects, Chase only gets pennies of it...if you pay Chase directly it means alot more.

I would try that first, and see what results you get...If you get none or no satisfaction, then I would send similar letters to the AR dept and controller, accounting dept, collections dept, (heck even CC:the CFO) if you wanted to make a little fuss about the TROUBLE you have had with the CA they chose to use, in making an amicable settlement on the debt, which you are perfectly willing to do.

Just a thought. I am sure others have more direct approaches. I am also sure others have names of people at chase for you to contact (sorry I do not).

    Good Luck

Thank you, Dave. If they continue to be uncooperative, I'm going to be making more than a LITTLE fuss, lol. :)

I was told by Providian that when my account was turned over to a CA they had assigned the debt to I could not even pay or deal with Providian directly about the account.

In other words I had to deal only with the CA to pay off and settle my Providian account.

I said to the Providian rep...."You mean I can't even pay you over the phone right now??"

She said no and said hold on....."The lady from the CA answered the phone, the scumbag at Providian had transfered me to her!!"

I tried to make some settlement with the CA.

After them looking the account up it appeared that just the day earlier Providian took the account back from the CA since I sent the CA a request for validation.

I guess either the CA or Providian didn't want to deal with having to provide validation of the debt so Providian just took it back.

I called Providian back and told them this, the lady said...Yeah it looks like we took it back, it's in the process of being re-assigned to another collection agency.

I said...This is great I can now deal with you!

She said....No it is in the process of being reassigned as we speak.

I then hung up with her and was able to reach after numerous, numerous phone calls and hours of waiting on the phone an Executive with Providian who I explained my situation to.

She transfered me to a settlement rep who was then able to work something out with me.

I am now paying Providian about 60% of what I owe them and they will be updating my account as "PAID", removing all notations of lates or charge-off.

My advice is to call the CA and see what gives, then call the OC and see what they say.

Do pretty much like I did and you can get the same results. It is however alot of work!!

    Good Luck!

    Providian is crap.

ALWAYS try and deal with the OC if possible.
