Bill, thank you so much for your informative and helpful replies. I finally feel like I understand my options and can now proceed accordingly.

But yet, I still have a few questions about the details (isn't that always the case!) --

In Dec., I sent a letter to the OC offering about 50% of the alleged debt (which is ~$500). No reply.
In Jan., I sent another letter to OC saying I never heard back from them and offering same terms. Get a letter back from OC saying this account has been referred to CA. Please contact the CA.
The CA has sent a letter "we would rather work with you than against you" but no specifics. And the CA has called once (maybe twice) -- "please call us about the letter you sent."
I have not yet called back/written to them because I want to make sure I am fully armed with information to avoid pitfalls.

I have been careful however, not to tip my hand about getting the mortgage. However, I am sure they could pull the CR and take a look at some of the inquires and see that mortgage companies have been looking at me also!

I used the search function and read a lot about Westcap's restrictive endorsement method. It does sound like it something that might work for me (since the debt is not that much and they probably wouldn't want to bother with me taking them to court about it if they don't adhere to the restrictive endorsement per the law here in Texas).

Should I send a letter letting them know I'm going to be sending a cashier's check with a restictive endorsement, or do you think I should just explain myself in a letter accompanying the check w/re?

I was considering if I should send it to the CA, but I think since the OC is the one reporting -- the TL I am trying to remove -- the check w/re should go to the OC. Am I correct in thinking this way?

Afraid you lost me here ... how would I not have to pay either one of them?

Again, thanks for the information. In addition to the quidence, sometimes its just good to have some affirmation that I have not totally lost my mind doing all this.

    peace,
    delilah

Look, please send me an email with all of the above. I can look at how you are saying things just a bit better that way and not being quite so pressured for time.

Its not that I want to try to sell you anything nor that I don't want to put the info out here for all and sundry to see and use freely. I've already done that in a couple of other posts and will probably do it again but I just need to get a bit more clarity and a bit more time to explain it porperly so you don't make any mistakes.

I've got people to see coming in and I'm fighing car problems and got more problems than I can say grace over right now and trying to get you the right answers here on the board just isn't going to work for me right now.
