The original creditor on an item on my CR is out of business. It had been reported for collection, however they no longer exist, does anyone have an idea on how best to proceed to get it removed?

    It depends.

Who is the OC? If it's a credit card company like Providian, then someone else now owns their records. If it is a company that has truly gone out of business, and there is no way to contact them, that's a horse of a different color.

If it's the latter, just dispute it with the credit bureau. If they can't contact the OC, then they can't verify the information, so they have to remove it.

    not a CC

It isn't a credit card. It is actually from an after school program that my daughter left before then end of the program to go with her father for her visit. They knew she wasn't coming in and said it wouldn't be charged to me.

I have just found out they lied - and it is in the hands of a local CA.

I am going to send them a letter requesting validation and see where that gets me.

I would. This company could have bought the debt, and might actually (although doubtful) have the paperwork to prove it.

    Always good to validate.

In addition, you may as well dispute it through the credit reporting agencies.
