Many months ago after reconciling my March 2002 credit card statement I noticed a charge in the amount of $57.85 made by America Online. While I did have ISP service with America Online at the time, I did not know what this charge is for and why it appeared on my credit card. I have made repeated calls to their customer service department looking for assistance over the past nine months and to date I have received no help from anyone at AOL. On September 11, 2002 I sent a very detailed letter to their Payment Services Department in Jacksonville, FL looking for assistance. No one contacted me. I sent another letter to them in January 2003. Again, no reply. I'm now wondering what my options are. Is it too late for AMEX to investigate? Should I take AOL to small claims court? Would the FCBA contain the answers to my questions if I were to sue them in small claims court? Has anyone ever had a similar problem? Buckets
AOL is bad about overbilling and billing past the time you had service with them. I can't help w/the other ?s but try AMEX. I had something like this and it WAS too late to dispute, but always worth a try. HTH
My understanding is that legally a credit card company only has to go back 3-6 (?) months on a dispute (which is why we must all check those statements constantly) but it's still worth a try for you. Good luck.
kseab =================== but they can sue you for something from 3-6 years ago? Does this look lopsided to you? >>
<< Has anyone ever had a similar problem? Buckets ============== This kind of thing happens all the time . >>
Unfortunately Buckets is beyond the point at which Amex will do anything. (But the gang is right, I would at least try). The problem is the law gives a vendor the right to consider an issue closed. FCBA says 2 billing cycles. Just so you all know, AOL is so incompetent that just disputing the charge with your Bank or CC will result in exactly the same response they always give their customers, NONE! This of course means that your dispute will be successful.
