I am ready to ditch AOL.

The new price increase incurring in July, just gave me one easy incentive to look into switching.

Does anyone have recommendations for Internet Service Providers?

All input would be greatly appreciated.

Does anyone have know or have peoplepc. They are $14.95 unlimited, the first month is free, and 2 e-mail accounts.

AOL's Unlimited Use plan will increase by $1.95 to $23.90 beginning in the July billing cycle.

AOL's other pricing plans will not be affected by the change.

NEVER MIND...SIGNED ON TO AOL AND A POP UP SAID NO INCREASE FOR MY PLAN...IF I WANT TO TAKE FULL ADVANTAGE I CAN SIGNUP KEYWORD: BILLING.

YEAH, I'M GOING TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE OFFER TO INCREASE MY COST...JUST LIKE FIRST USA ALLOWING ME TO HAVE 22.49% INTEREST. FIRST USA GONE JUNE!!!

AOL will increase the price of its Unlimited Use plan by $1.95 to $23.90 beginning in July, the first increase since April 1, 1998, more than three years ago.

If you have cable tv, check with your local cable provider. Mine offers cable modem net service. It is very fast and you are always logged on. It doesnt tie up a phone line. I love it. It costs about $29.99 per month if you buy the modem or 39.99 if you rent it. I recomend buying it if you are going to keep the service. I have had the service for over a year and would never go back to dial-up dinosaur service again. Good luck

Earthlink is a good choice. Very few problems dialing up or being bumped. Their price is $19.95 for unlimited access. I think it comes with 2 e-mail accounts, but I'm not sure. If you have Spring long distance, you can be discounted to $17.95. I truly have had no problems with them. Had them for 2 years now.

We use the local cable modem like LoFico. Spped is absolutely 100 X's faster than with AOL before and the best thing is that it's ALWAYS on. You don't sign on, you just open it up and you are connected.

Just make sure that if you get something like you always open calem modem connection, that you download and install a firewall. My hubby knows the in's and outs on that but it keeps anyone from knowing you are even out there.

Oh, and ours is just about to increase from $29.95 a month to $34.95 a month. We have been renting the modum for $15 extra a month, but are buying it next month.

AT&T WorldNet ranks highest in overall customer satisfaction among the largest national subscription Internet Service Providers (ISPs), according to the J.D. Power and Associates 2000 National ISP Online Residential Customer Satisfaction StudySM released today.

AT&T WorldNetâ??s leading position is driven by strong performance across all seven factors that determine overall customer satisfaction, including the two top drivers: cost/billing/image and speed/availability. AT&T WorldNet also excels in e-mail services and navigation/access to other portals. The remaining drivers of overall satisfaction include suitability of services/content; customer care/technical support and ease of use.

EarthLink, which merged with MindSpring earlier this year, places a close second in overall customer satisfaction. EarthLink performs above industry average in most factors, with particular strength in customer care/technical support.

"To stay competitive in the U.S. Internet industry, companies must offer a consistent level of service across all drivers of customer satisfaction," said Kirk Parsons, director of telecommunications at J.D. Power and Associates. "Both AT&T WorldNet and EarthLink clearly meet this requirement."

I know a ton of people who are very happy with AT&T internet. I have both DSL and a cable modem and will never go back to dial up. (Just call us internet geeks) When JDPA choose them I wasn't surprised, and don't let the fact that I work for JD Power & Associates cloud your decision.

    PS AT&T's unlimited is 21.95 a month.

I just signed up(waiting for software) for the AT&T worldnet 7/7plan. It is 7.00 a month for UNLIMITED internet access , you must switch to them for long distance and they charge you .07 a minute for that. I will let you know how it goes, but if you going to get anything from AT&T then get the 7/7 plan.

    Hey Nana,

I would love cable modem, but of course I am trying to cut down some to make room for the mortgage:) So going from 21.95 to 7.00 is a nice break for us.

    Hey there,

Since my boys (the Wings) where booted out in the first round I will have to give everything I got to NJ. As for the cable modem, we just it this weekend. My finacee said that I hogged the DSL all the time so he went out and got the cable modem. We are such geeks that we have 4 desktops and 2 laptops running with either DSL or cable or both at all times. As for my boys next year damn it.

    Re: NanaC ~ Off Topic

Yes, George that is a router. We are using a "shareware" program to network our cable, we can spend 7.00 more a month for an IP address for me or purchase the software for 39.99 and not have to purchase the additional IP address. The cable speed is faster then the DSL at this time. But we can no longer see all the cable users in our subdivision so our speed can change at anytime. We are only a 1/4 mile away from the Ameritech sub-station so we have the highest upload/download speed available via the DSL. We don't plan to keep both but we are having fun with both while we have.

Here's the 7/7 link, it kind of hard to find at their site, I guess since they other plan is 14.95 for virtually the same thing LOL.

    Re: ISP

I have the AT&T i495 plan (up to 150 hrs per month) and I like it so far. The plan costs me $4.95 per month, hence the name, but I've never ran into busy signals during dialup and I'm never booted off. The only drawback with this is the banner ad on the top of my screen. I'm planning to go broadband (cable) later this year because we still only have one phone line and I'm on the net for hours every day. I definitely recommend AT&T for dialup service.

    Re: ISP

George, Yes, I got the notice. It will only affect me for one month cuz I'll be moving at the end of June and I'll be changing ISPs. That's a good thing...I'll be going to Roadrunner. I detest AT&T so am happy not to have to be dealing with them!

Desdemona: Looks like they need all the help they can get! LOL...teehee :)
