Can a Macy's gift card be returned for a refund? I've received conflicting answers from 2 reps. Thanks, Saar
Probably not. At Target (I know, not Macy's), they can only be redeemed for merchandise. And you don't get any cash back from your purchase, the remaining balance stays on the gift card. If you return the merchandise you bought with the gift card, you get back how you paid for it, hence, another gift card. Hope this helps.
I think the gift card could be returned only under this circumstance: Say you bought a gift card for someone and changed your mind...if you had the receipt for the gift card, they might be able to refund your money. But say someone gave you a gift card (with no receipt) I think you are stuck. Plan B at that time would be to max out the gift card and then return the item with OUT a receipt. They will either offer you some sort of store credit or they might offer you a check in the mail? I'm not even sure if they do the check in the mail thing anymore. You might just want to go to the store and ask.
It would be a lot of hassle...but you could go buy "STUFF" you don't want...use the gift gift card in full and put the rest on your credit card. Wait a couple of days, return the "STUFF" and give them the credit card for FULL CREDIT...they should not waste their time "SPLITTING" the refund... IT IS A BENEFIT TO "CREDIT" THE CREDIT CARD FOR THE STORE!!! THE 1-3% FEE ALSO GETS CREDITED. I had a card that I made a mistake on by buying "STUFF" on...so all payments went to the BT...I bought some "STUFF" at TARGET for mostly cash and credit card for the rest...told them "I HAVE NO USE FOR THE CASH...I WANT THE CREDIT ON THE CREDIT CARD"...they did it. It got rid of my "PURCHASES" balance on that card...
