I recently sent a validation letter to a CA collecting for an old utility bill (from 3/1998). When I received my green card back, I disputed with CRA as "not mine." There were two tradelines with experian with the same account numbers and same balance due for this CA. One came back verified as mine, the other was deleted. Now, however, they have the same info. for the deleted TL but are using a different account number. So now, it is basically where it was a month ago with 2 TLs for the same debt, just using 2 different account numbers. Experian says I have to dispute again (30 more days!). In a few days I will be sending CA a second validation letter (30 days after 1st one). Should I address this account that they have maniupulated to reappear on my credit report in that letter, or start over since they have changed the account number? Ug, this is so frustrating. Thank goodness for this website.
Ooopsy, have you checked to be sure the CA is legal to collect in your state and the state they are located in? It' can be an easy answer! Check out this link: http://consumers.creditnet.com/straighttalk/board/showthread.php?s=&threadid=26763
