Just wondering if anyone can answer this question. I have my auto lease with a credit union. I recently fell behind on it due to unemployment. I got 60 days behind but kept making a payment but stayed 60 days behind. Am I making sense? lol! Anyway, the credit union let me go on like this for months and never contacted me. So one day when I made my payment at a different credit union and called in to have it transferred to my lease payment I get this really nasty woman on the phone saying my car is going to be repo'd. I'm like "okay whatever" and that was pretty much that. Sure enough a few days later the repo man came to my door. I told him he wasn't taking my car because I had every intention of catching the payments up. He wrote all this down and was on his way. So the next day I call my credit union again and explain to them I just need a little time to catch up on the payment. They wouldn't hear of it, they wouldn't really let me say much at all, they were just being really nasty to me. So, much to my disgust I went to a pay advance place to get the money to bring my account current. Which brings me to the reason for my post. I had another loan account with the same credit union I have my auto lease with and they said that account had to be paid off as well before they would cancel the repo. Can they do that? I paid off the account with some help from a friend but I just didn't know if they could legally do that. It is their policy to take funds from an account to pay off another but make me pay off another account when I brought the lease account current?! Thanks for any input!
" I had another loan account with the same credit union I have my auto lease with and they said that account had to be paid off as well before they would cancel the repo. Can they do that?" Depends on the terms of your car loan. You may have a so-called "universal default" provision which says a delinqunecy in any loan is grounds for a repo. Check your car loan papers. (and you might want to keep your car somewhere else for a few days.)
