OK, here's a ghost out of the past-

-through good financial management, tenacity, and this forum, I've rebuilt my credit (score) from 601 in 10/2000 to the upper echalons of 680 or so...as a matter of fact, I had to stay home from work today (sick 7 year old), so I applied for three new credit cards online, and got all three (10K in new revolving, yay for me).

Also got late student loans off of Equifax last month (I guess they ran out of patience before I did). Now, just 2 more student loan dings on TU (from '95), 3 student loan dings on EXP (again, '95), and the dreaded paid $86 paid collection (medical) on EQU.

Then, in today's mail--out of the blue (of course) comes a collection letter from North Shore about a $35.61 bill from like a billion years ago from THE FRANKLIN MINT!

All I want is for it NOT to ever show up on my bureaus...ideas?....pay....ignore....send the big two page letter....? Obviously, I want the least painful way out of this....

    Thanks....

If it's not already on you credit report - pay it, directly to The Franklin Mint.

Even if it is on your credit report, I would pay it because it is such a same amount and may be easily explaned away and removed.

Oh, I'd pay it in a heartbeat....I just don't want payment to trigger an entry on a credit bureau...know what I mean?

"Thank you for your recent payment, it has been noted a paid collection on your credit bureau" (whereas there was nothing before...)

Maybe I'm just being to paranoid? Who said that?...

Just ignore lbrown with usual insightful and helpful posts. I just had something sneak up on me for $52.00. I called and got a signed letter stating if I paid it within 30 days it would not be reported. You might try the same thing. I called the ca.

In this case, definitely pay it. I wish I could make my 7 go away for $35. If you don't owe it, there are principles,... but think what it will cost you if it rocks your CRA reports. Your 3 new credit cards may cancel on you before you get going, or at least boost up your interest rate. Principles be damned, if it's paid and it hits any of your reports, you can easily quickly get it off. But if you let it sit, it will definite sprout fangs and bite the sh*t out of you!

How many times are you willing to pay the 35 dollars over and over again when they keep adding more and more Negs. to your reports?
You don't eliminate blackmail by paying the blackmailer.

Sorry it took so long to reply--my internet connection comes over on the Mayflower....

Anyway, yes I definitely owe the $35.00--I just don't want the PAYMENT to be the REASON it suddenly shows up on my bureau....

Stupid Franklin Mint--and what took them so long anyway--I'm not Osama in the mountain caves for pete's sake....

    Oh well....any input appreciated....

Good point lbrown59, but this doesn't seem to be a recurring situation. I have to admit I personally would take the punch once or twice and keep moving. Especially for just $35. But don't test me, I'll litigate ya to death!!! (literally)

just make sure you get in writing that the CA will NOT report to the CRA as PAID, or make any other notation whatsoever. Also have them note this will SETTLE the debt you have with them and prevent any further transferring or collection efforts as well. Agreed upon this with their signature (manager or someone with authirty), then and only then will you pay.

Must be the same reason it takes the CRAs so long to correct errors!

LBrown, my comment was not meant to be personal. It just seems to me that you always make these 1 line comments, but never offer any advice.

Oh, and it's Gulf State not golf states.
