    Hi all,
I have just filed chapter 7 BK...Hopefully this will be a done deal in the next 4 to 5 months. I have read here many times about cleaning up your credit reports after the debts are discharged. One question though...How can I dispute accounts on my report as "Not Mine". Is this legal, and is it considered fraud if the CRA's wanted to pursue it?

    Thanks to all who respond

It is my amatuer understanding that the burden of proof is on the CRA. Therefore, disputing as 'not mine' insures that the CRA does their homework.

I think of CRAs as 3rd party snitch industries. If I lie to the guy at Walmart about my credit history, can he pursue it? I would think not, but again, I leave this to the pros.

Hmmm...ok...let's say it is reporting with an incorrect balance..or some inaccuracy..If you say.."I never had an account with XXX with a balance of XXX." Then, it isn't yours AS DESCRIBED in the CR and your dispute (as I wrote it above) is truthful.

great point Nana. thats how i always felt about it. One time when dealing with Chex i found a post that said... "I disputed it as....This can't possibly be accurate...."

i always thought that was a good aproach...
