OK- I had questions- GOT MY FIRST RESPONSE!! On my report I have a charge off for a repo'd car. The first thing I should do is the validation letter, right? I thought after that I would do the whole pay and remove thing (maybe get the amount lessened?) But I feel like here I am reading people sending secondary validation letters and all this. Can someone just spell it out for me the steps I need to take? Everywhere is a little different and I have taken notes that are directing me in different directions. As for collections accounts- I would just do the same thing?
Also- what is this estoppel? I see I should follow 1- Validation to CA 2- 1 week later dispute to CRA 3- Cease and desist (should I bother with this if I am not getting any calls right now) 4- estoppel to CA (what does this mean??)
Now that I look at my husbands- he has 27 different collections all for the local hospital/after hours care. They go back to 2001. I dont think we missed 27 different bills - maybe 1 here and there. They are all for very different amounts from $5 to $1300 and there is 9 different account numbers listed between all the entries. Do I address all of these together to the collection agency or the hospital or the reporter itself first?
I'm not the guy to give advice on medical bills, but my friend had the same problem. 2 medical visits, listed 9 times on his CRA's with different amounts. The account numbers were the same. He disputed and sent DV letter to CA. They were removed from TU and EQ, but EX says verified. EX didnt update the reported date, or provide proof of procedure. They refuse his request, and have blocked him from disputes. I would do like you listed, the DV letters, and dispute CRA's 1 week later as Not Mine. I would also continue to seek expert help on the forum.
Thank you- How can I find out if they are the same visit though? I typed out the letter listing all the different account numbers and I figured I will see what that brings me. I just dont know how to find out like the dates or anything without admitting the debt. I appreciate the help this place offers- I spent about 10 hours on here today and learned so much I don't feel as scared as I was going into this this morning!
(I am NOT one of the experts here. I will offer my experience and my thoughts, but I also encourage others who know far more than I do advise and to correct anything I may say) You may not need to know the dates of service to proceed right now. (you could find out the dates of service by contacting either the OC or the CA, but the general rule of thumb is "Never talk to a CA". For now, I wouldn't seek that info that way) from trahnier I think the older ones may be easier to remove. I think owe2much is right - DV, and follow up with dispute to CRA. DV will ask them to prove the account is yours, and when they can't, and they CRA asks them the same thing and they can't prove it, the CRA will remove. This is more likely the older the account is. For any that they can prove, that will tell you the dates of service in their response. (so you don't have to contact anyone on the phone for that info - just the DV in writing) Good luck.
I always add a c&d statement to my DV letter: "Thank you for the time spent validating this debt, please contact me by mail and cease and desist from all other forms of contact. Feel free to contact me by mail concerning this account."
Well today I mailed out 8 validation letters to CA's and 1 dispute to a very mysterious listing on my husbands report. 4 for mine and 4 for his. I am so excited to see what happens lol!
Well I checked the tracking numbers and 3 of them were delivered today. I should wait a week before sending the dispute thing out to the CRA? How long unitl I should send out the next letter to the CO
YIPPEE!!! Got our first reply today- it was from some company listed on my SO's report that we ad never heard of - They sent out a letter telling us it will be deleted from all 3 CRA's within 60 days!!!!!!!!! Of course we still dont know who they are and if we ever somehow owed them money but I am so psyched!
