Just pulled hubby's privacy guard and he has a $50 collection account on there from our old city. We had several ER trips with our kids last year . I thought we'd made all the requisite co-pays but with our recent move I would have no idea where to find the records. The account is listed by the hospital, not by a CA, so I'm guessing validation is out and my first step is to dispute with EQ. It's not a huge amount so we'll pay for del if necesary, but I need a back up strategy if the hospital says no. Thanks Poochie
Re: ok I should know this - med col Huh? why is validation out? That should be your first step. (smile) How would you even know if you owe this? Right? If validated, then I'd offer pay for deletion in conjunction with the HIPPA letter on WHYCHAT's site http://whychat.5u.com/
Re: ok I should know this - med col I've been reading this site for over a year and i'm still flubbing the basics...I thought OCs were under no obligation to validate? Also, as I'm reading the HIPPA letter (thanks for that, btw!) the OC is violating HIPPA EITHER through referring an account to a CA AND/OR reporting an account to a CRA? Does HIPPA still apply if the charge is for a dependent minor (I don't see why it wouldn't but just maing sure) thanks Poochie
Re: Re: ok I should know this - med Nah, I think it's just me. I've read here too that OC isn't required by law to validate. However, doesn't it just make common sense that you'd not begin to negotiate for payment until you know in your own mind what the debt is for. Also, I was confused as I've never personally heard of a hospital reporting to a CRA. Are you sure? I'm leaning toward thinking it's a CA reporting, but again that's just a guess on my part. Regardless of what you name it, validation or whatever, you still need to know who thinks you owe money before step #2. Make sense?
Re: Re: Re: ok I should know this - Hi, Be confused no more. I too have a TL from the hospital as well as the CA they sent it too. But the hospital put themselves on TU CR. Jane
