George: I've seen several references to that statement he is supposed to have made. If true that he actually did say that, and that it's not taken out of context with the rest of what he said at the time, it would have been an impossible lie. As a matter of fact, I was working for Minneapolis Honeywell back in 1975 and one of the projects that I helped work on at the time was the initial planning stages of what was later to become(finally evolve into) the internet. Compuserve was one of the initial originators of the internet and they were quite active in the software end of building what would evolve into the internet at that time. And all of this had been going on for a few years before I ever got into the hardware end with Minneapolis Honeywell. Other companies were also working on both hardware and software for the internet and had also been doing so for a few years prior to 1975. So Gores statement could only be patently false unless he meant it in some other context than what he is being credited with having said. Al Gore is simply not old enough to have invented the internet because it was invented (so to speak) more than 30 years ago. Compuserve was already a huge entity by 1981 when I got my first personal computer. By 1982, I was already doing customer research and maintenance on my own personal computer for Itex Corporation here in Oklahoma City. My main function was to keep track of possible trades for our local office of Itex.
