ok, spam by collectors now?

    I got a collection notice for an 8 year old debt from RMA, to which I will promptly ignore.
    However, stuck behind it was a form stating that they will now be selling/releasing my contact information to 3rd party companies.
    It said that if I wished to 'opt-out' I would have to complete this form and let them know otherwise I'd be automatically opt'ed in.

    WTF? is that even legal? anyone else seen this crap?

    it's kind of a double-edge sword, on one hand if you reply with that form, they know you got their letter...if you don't you become SPAM fodder.

    Well, maybe this is a stretch, but that letter would be interesting lawsuit fodder:

    3) The publication of a list of consumers who allegedly refuse to pay debts, except to a consumer reporting agency or to persons meeting the requirements of section 603(f) or 604(3)1 of this Act.
