old collections

    i have a few collections on my rpeort from 2002, and 2003 i know they cannot be with this collection agency anymore how do i dispute hte items and remove them??

    If you have pulled a current report and they are on there. Are they past the SOL.?. Are there inconsistencys with amounts,etc...
    Send a DV letter to them. Send CMRR. Keep all your paper work, green slips,reports etc..
    That would be a start.

    My advice on collections is, #1 - are they still in the SOL? #2 - getting them removed from your reports does not mean the collection agencies will go away #3 - if you can offer a "pfd", that would be best. My personal experience is to negotiate a settlement offer in writing, with the creditor agreeing to remove collection from credit report. This way you have satisfied the account (no more attempts to collect as well as freedom from that debt) and removal from your reports. Go get 'em.
