Old MCI Account With MCM

I have just started cleaning up my credit, got 2 of the 3 reports online and am waiting for the third in the mail. Both reports show an old MCI Communications account in collection with Midland Credit Management. I have a stack of old letters from them that I left unopened when I was in the 'I hope it will all just go away' stage. I received another letter from them yesterday offering a 10% settlement to pay within a month - explicitly stating that the settlement will result in the account being considered paid in full.

This sounds appealing, but... I was going to go through the validation and proof of ownership of the debt. It is long after 30 days from the first letter they sent. The original creditor was MCI Communications Services and they no longer exist as such. I know that the original debt and the amount of the debt is valid.

I am tempted to take advantage of the settlement, but don't want to get ripped off. Is there a possibility of verifying the validity of this within the month that the settlement is valid? Any advice on how to proceed?

    Thanks!

Pay it. They are not required to respond within 30 days to you with validation.

    How old is the debt?
