I kept checking the online account status check for Amex Blue and it would say "in progress". Well, I decided to call Amex directly and a rep by the name of Linda brought up my account and approved me on the spot! I must have asked her 5 times to make sure this was accurate. Finally, she says, yes, Mr. Lee, for the 5th time, you are approved!" I asked her what the limit was and she didnt know yet. This is where it gets kinda strange. She said my Equifax score was in the mid 600's and that I had 2 negatives. This is all true. I had a chargeoff from 1997 and the other negative was the collection account from Midland. These were all settled a few years ago but is still on my reports. Then the rep mentioned that I had a Costco Plat card from Amex with a limit of 8k. She said they may allocate some of the limit with the Blue cash card. I told her not too. She said it shouldnt be a problem and that I would receive my card within 2 weeks. I really dont care what limit it is. After applying for Blue 2 times in the past, and getting rejected both times, it looks like the 3rd time worked! I will update everyone asap!
I've been with Amex for almost 3 years now and it's been great so far. The green card was my 1st Amex card and I have been charging up a storm ever since I have received it. I think my approval had a lot to deal with my previous relationship with Amex. I was approved for the Costco Plat Cash card a few weeks ago and I figured what the hell... I'll go ahead and try for Blue (for the 3rd time). I cannot believe they gave it to me with 2 old derogs and my Equifax score in the mid=600's. Unreal!
Congrats on the card! I hope to get Blue some day! I like AMEX because they seem to give generous limits. I only have Green Rewards for now, but maybe in a year I'll get what I want.
Thanks guys! I just logged ino the "status check" website and it has now been updated to Approved! BLUE CASH FROM AMERICAN EXPRESS Approved Congratulations! Your application has been approved and you should receive your new card within 7-10 days. Thats is it! No more applications for a long time. I have 9-10 inquiries on each CRA and figured I'd apply for all the cards I want within a few months. I have indeed learned my lesson on responsibility and havent missed a payment in 6.5 years. The only derog I ever had was a charge off from Wells Fargo Bank because I was in College and didnt know any better. I hope college students understand the ups and downs of credit because I sure as hell didn't know anything about it back in the early 90's. After the chargeoff back in 1997, it was real tough getting credit. I had the typical cards from Providian and Cap one and was charged 20-24% interest rates. After I had the subprime cards for a few years, I paid them all off and cancelled all of the providian and getsmart accounts and kept a cap one open. My scores were in the high 600's and 700's. I just receievd my mortgage back in July of this year and began to apply for the prime accounts. I am happy to report that I was approved for all the prime accounts except for Fleet (Damn Fleet!). I applied and was approved for the Chase Perfect card, BofA platinum (after PFB) 3 Citibank Platinum Cards, an Amex Costco Platinum Cash Rebate Card, and now the Blue! My scores recently took a hit due to the heloc reporting to the CRA's. Anyways, I am definitely finished applying and wish everyone else good luck. I figure if I can get Blue with 2 derogs and a 650'ish Equifax fico score, then anyone can also!
Congrats.. you think the fact that you had the green card made a difference.. I'm just starting my repair quest and I want to eventually get the blue card... but green could be a stepping stone.. until i'm able to get there.. anyone knno about what score would be needed for Amex Green.. IwantBlue
I am almost 100% certain that my history with the green card made a huge difference. I have never heard of people getting approved for blue with a mid 600 fico and 2 derogs on their credit report. Granted the derogs were old but combine that with a mid 600 fico score and you have all the makings of a denial. I just couldnt believe I was approved. Anyways, I called an Amex csr with new accounts on my way home and she verified that I was approved and my cl was $2k. Its not a whole lot but its a start. I asked why the limit was so low and she said that due to my $8k line with the Costco Rebate card, this was the most they could give me at this time. She did mention that I could move some of my Costco line to my Blue line without a problem. I probably wont do that because I love the Costco equally, if not more than the Blue The bottom line is if anyone wants to be approved for the Blue, your best bet is to call a csr at new accounts before they make a decision 1st. Whats funny was that before I called the csr the 1st time, the account wasnt even approved yet. During my conversation with the csr, she approved it on the spot. I had no idea they had that much power. I just figured it was ran through some unknown formula and either you passed the criteria or didn't. I now know for a fact that this is not true.
I am wondering if Amex have lowered the criteria for issuing the Blue Cash Card. I applied three times unsuccessfully before being approved last week, and received the card yesterday, a week to the day of being approved. To my surprise, the credit line is $20,000 with a rate of 0% until April 20034 and 8.98% thereafter, with balance transfers at 5.99 for life. Neil
Congrats! Amex is definately my favorite. I have had green for quite a while and they have treated me great! Been with Blue for a few months now and very happy so far...easy BT's and a great rate! Amex has ALWAYS been on my side if I had to dispute a charge and always treats me great on the phone. Congrats again! Shawn
