Ok I got my big $300 target store card today(not the visa). I thought I read somewhere you could call and get an APR reduction but when we called they said it was fixed for the life of the card. Is this true or is the reduction only on the visa. Also, I got a chase toys r us card which I wanted bad but it is only for $400 and the APR is a pathetic 19.99%. not even close to my mbna goldpoints $1500 and 9.9%. What is the best way to get the APR lowered and the CL raised. We called and they said they could do nothing. Should I offer to BT my 4000 24.99% citifinancial loan although that is probably way too much or how long should I wait to try again and should I use the card at all and if so how much to qualify for the best rate and increase.

I did not apply for the target visa because I needed a store card bad. One of my negatives is no store retail cards and lowes turned me down because of no retail cards on file. The 9.99 % was directed at the chase card.

I got that same speal.....BLAH BLAH BLAH...when we tried to lower our interest rate on our Target Guest card....it was a whopping 21%!! when I have other cards less then 9% OUCH...so I requested to apply for the Visa card and I was immediately denied so I requested my Target Guest card be closed out and that is how I handled it. They don't seem to want to work with you on interest rates at all....I do have a Chase Platinum that was at 17% and we called them and right away they lowered it to a fixed rate of 8% and I got a letter stating that it was indeed fixed. Guess some companies won't work with you and some will.

Hellen- Target Guest Card has become their "subprime" card - it's at one fixed rate (and a high one at that, like most every retail card). Unfortunately, your score wasn't high enough (or you had derogs) to qualify for the Visa. They cannot negotiate the APR on a guest card.

It would be nice if they would set-up their Visa like Macy's (Bloomies, Rich's, Burdines, etc.) ... one card = 2 accounts, one account for store (counts as retail) and one account for external (counts as bankcard).
