I read on cardoffers.com that if you don't stay at a starwood hotel 1 time a year that the points expire in one year. Well sometimes I can't get off work to stay ata a starwood once a year, does anyone know anything about this policy? Thanks.

    I'LL READ THE fine print...

    IT WILL TAKE A WHILE...

"IF" it is a ONE DAY REQUIREMENT...that can't happen for you???

You could put MOM and DAD or SISTER/BROTHER up for one night and you PAY ON YOUR CARD...You just check in and sneak out just before they go to sleep...

Or does you city have NONE AVAILABLE...so you have to go "OUT OF TOWN" or "OUT OF STATE"???

Re: one more question about starwoo

I could do it once a year for sure for one night or maybe a weekend, but can that one night or weekend be payed for by points or do you have to stay there paid in cash once a year? I found the real fineprint on SPG.com and I appreciate you taking the time to read it for me GEORGE, I guess my main question, if you can find me an answer is if my starwood points will not be forfeited if I pay for a night with points once a year, or if to keep your points you have to pay cash for a room once a year.

PAY FOR IT WITH THE CREDIT CARD NOT CASH...save the
    points for the 20,000 points + 5,000 bonus = 25,000 MILES!!!

    CASH IS ILLOGICAL!!!

well I meant can I pay for it with the points earned from the card and not money on the card, since it is only like 1,000 or 2,000 points for a room for 1 night but it is like 150 a night money for the room, you know what I mean? would that work as my one time a year or would it have to actually be paid for with some form of money?

I have NOT found any FINE PRINT (YET) that you have to STAY in a hotel once a year or LOSE the accrued points...

UAL & DELTA IS ADD TO MILEAGE OR USE MILEAGE ONCE EVERY 36 MONTHS!!!

I just called new applications and they said if you don't stay 2 times a year paid at a a starwood hotel you autmatically lose all of your accrued points, so...looks like I wasted an inquiry and will probably cancel the card when I get it, or just not activate it.

here it is from starwoods website

    www.cardoffers.com

Least Attractive Feature(s): Points expire in one year if card is not used once per year eligible
stay at a participating hotel or resort.

A WAY AROUND THIS IS TO SPEND $20,000 IN 11 MONTHS...REDEEM YOUR 20,000 + 5,000 BONUS = 25,000 DELTA MILES...THEN PUT IT IN THE SOCK DRAWER UNTIL THE END OF MONTH #13...(OR THE $30.00 ANNUAL FEE IS CHARGED WHICH EVER COMES FIRST)...OR YOU COULD LEAVE 5 POINTS ON IT AND IT SAYS "FORFIT"...YOU CAN SPEND AGAIN!!!

    ALFUL LOT OF HASSLE!!!

I would just trade for DELTA @ $55.00 or $85.00...NO INQUIRY NECESSARY!!!

    DELTA HAS PARTNERS!!!

well, called to check status today, approved, told them I didn't want it, first rep transferred me to starwood customer service and they said since the account was created today they don't have the account number yet but when I get the card, don't activate it, call them and they can product transfer it(delta, standard optima, etc). Then thought, maybe it can be done today if I call again, call new accounts again and they say it is not possible to prod tranfer and to just cancel it and reapply, then call again and they say cancel and reapply, do I beleieve customer service or new accounts. I don't know who to believe:-(

check out www.hiltonhhonors.com for details, but I use is for my regular spending. I do stay at a Hilton occasionally, but I don't think you have to in order to stay active. I think you just need to earn points to stay active.

I also like gold points (can be used at TGI Fridays, Radisson, Country Inns and Suites, etc). www.goldpoints.com. I have that credit card too. That is from MBNA. $5k spending earns me a free night at country inns and suites.

I'm not real happy with hilton since they changed their reward redemption grid. Now I need more points for the hotel stays. But you could product transfer from Starwood to Hilton Amex (both are Optima products)
