I have a summon for a debt. How do I validate this. or validate the claim. I'm not sure I know what validate is.

Do you know if the debt belongs to you?

Even if it doesn't, you should probably file an answer to the court summons. If you don't, there's a possibility that the CA or OC could get a default judgement and garnish your wages. The court will require that they validate the debt as part of the process.

Have you pulled your credit report to see if the debt is actually there?

Once you've received a summons, it's too late for a DV. As Joshua said, you need to answer the summons. You'll ask for proof of the debt as part of your discovery.
