    Hello,

I am looking to find more information on one time use credit cards.

I often here of people using them for ISPs and other places one has doubts with their business practices and their word to cancel an account when you ask them too.

Are they hard to get and where?

    Thanks,

most major credit card companies have zero liability.

    So i don't even bother..

If i'm not liable, who cares.

I've been E-carded by russians on my crap 1 gold card. was no big deal. they handled it.

probably why the one time use #'s aren't all that popular. All the extra steps to buy something online? Not worth it.

It's more likely you'll get your card stolen from a waiter/tress at a restaurant or a mall store kiddie imo.

I like the "virtual account number" service offered through Citi. I use it when making online purchases from the smaller merchants.

    You can set parameters on:
    - # of uses (one time or recurring)
    - $ limit
    - transaction $ limit

Takes 5 minutes to set up...but it does offer piece of mind.

Especially from certain sites that don't explain the T&Cs about recurring billing.

    Ah shoot,,,

I was thinking it was secured. Like prepaid and maybe I could get one. Sounds like you need to have good credit. All I have is a visa debit card. :-(

    Thanks anyway.

Option #1 You might want to check with your bank to see if they offer Verified by Visa.

Option #2 You could always buy a Visa Gift Card if you're that worried about the practices of a company.

    tiger00,

Oh, I like both Options you gave. Very helpful.

Yes, come to think of it my checking account did mention something about Verified by Visa.
    I will look into it.

    THANKS!

FYI, Discover has a "one time card number" option.

Even with zero liability, you actually have to see the charge on your statement -- you may miss it. I do look at every charge on my statement, but using the virtual account numbers just gives me a bit more peace of mind (and, statistically, should lower my chances of missing a bogus charge on my statement).

Someone mentioned that discover has this as well (I'm using citi). Where on the website can I access this?

    Thanks!
