What does everyone think about the recent O&A firing? My opinion (for anyone that cares). I believe the Catholic League had a right to protest, especially against the couple (rather stupid and degrading), but do I believe O&A should have been fired? Not really. I believe radio gets a tough break especially when it comes to freedom of speech and the right to expression. TV gets away with alot more...Jerry Springer, some of FOX's crude shows, etc. What is the difference between such a program as a soap opera or Jerry Springer where you see two people making out aka "a love scene" or someone on the radio talking about it? In society is it okay for someone to watch, but not listen? Also, we all have choices of turning the channel. Has censorship gone too far or have we not gone far enough? Dani
Didn't O&A put the couple up to this? from what I read the couple was participating in a contest put togther by O&A..
O&A were having a contest with a list of places to make whopee around NYC. I do think St. Patrick's Cathedral was one of the locations...which is really stupid if you ask me. I think the couples chose where to um...particpate at. At this point it is still being stated as alleged. No one is sure if they did it or not. Wait until the court date, I guess. Dani
I heard that Samuel Adams has something to do with all this. In Boston, there are at least 220 bars that are refusing to serve Samuel Adams beer. Boston is very hare core Catholic. Charlie
This is not censorship. By definition, censorship is an action by the government and most people agree that we do not want the government making the decisions as to what we should hear or see. That is why we have the constitution. This is pure economics. One of our local TV stations started to drop in the ratings. A lot of people are being forced to leave and new people are being brought in in an effort to boost the ratings. There is nothing the old people did wrong - it is purely a decision based on economics. The same thing is happening with those radio hosts. it appears that they offended enough people that the stations decided to get rid of them. They can say whatever they like in our free country. But, the station does not have to provide them a forum to do it.
The same garbage happened to O&A here in Boston a few years back. They said on April Fools that Mayor Menino (Boston) died. Bad April Fools joke, but hell it was cleared up. Some of the stuff that O&A talk about would make me think that any HARDCORE catholic would turn the channel 5 words into hearing them. Noone FORCED these people to do what they did, remember God gave us FREE WILL.....so take that to the bank! Kellie<~~~O&A fan for life
O&A was great. I hope they come back and bring back Spaz! Spaz's "Week in review" was the best thing I ever heard. Some O&A moments I recall: The drunk truck driver. Spaz maxing out his credit card. Anthony talking about his car getting repo'ed Homeless shopping spree. 12 year old Gary. Song contest. Fake phone calls. Serious callers only. Giant Pop Tart.
The funniest thing that they ever talked about was when Anthony explained how he attended (or didn't in this case) high school. How he always skipped class and then wondered why all of his friends graduated but he didn't. I was driving and had to pull the car over several times because I was laughing so hard. I miss them terribly! A
The couple that had sex in the church should have known better. Everyone knows that the only people allowed to have sex inside a Catholic Church are the Priests! The Catholic Church has WAY too much pull, and these guys should not have been fired. They should have just been transferred to another market just like the pedophile priests get transferred to a new parish. Whatâ??s the difference?
