I'll try the keep it short so it'd be easier to read. An old landlord said my brother owed $110 after moving out. We tried to fight it, but due to his situation (need a school loan, and the bank doesn't like "unpaid" collections), we decided to stop fighting after a couple of months and he paid it. What did the agency do? Well, they added a second collections on his credit report, but with a $0 balance... didn't bother doing anything with the old tradeline. But being that it was now paid, I had him dispute them both yesterday. And now the bombshell. Tonight, he got an equifax notification. Checked the notice, and turns out that they had updated his report to say he owed $125, and it was unpaid and an *open* account. Right now, I'm about to have him send an ITS.. but I'd love to hear what people here with experience would say about handling this the proper way, and hopefully get it done sooner than later. Thanks a lot in advance.
