opt out and a car loan

I will (out of necessity--car died) be attempting to get a car loan in the next week or so. I am also having problems with a CA that is trying to collect on a debt that was written off in 10/97.

If I use the Opt Out option, can I still stay under the radar? (I am worried that if the CA sees that I am active, and trying to get credit, they will try to file a suit or something and things will go from bad to worse.)

    Thanks for any suggestions!

If it was written off in 10/97, I'd check your states SOL.
I do not believe that opting out has anything to do with a CA being able to find you!

Well, a poster w/ over 8000 posts answered another thread, and this is what got me to wondering about this.

"If no one has sued you, I think you're home free. The first thing you should do is call 1-888-5OPT OUT - so they can't sell your name to collection agencies who purchase lists of people applying for credit so they can find you and start trying to collect from you again. They NEVER stop trying."

The debt in question is a private loan from a private college that I attended, and the school is in KY.
