First, thank you all for your thoughtful answers and explanations on this site. I have learned a lot from you all. its amazing how much your quality of life can be affected by your credit score - this forum (thanks to you all) is giving me hope.

I made a series of immature financial decisions in college and I'm paying for them now - however I am very responsible with my credit and I want my credit reports to reflect that.

I have "opted out". Now I am going to have old and incorrect addresses removed from all of my reports. my questions are as follows:

    - Should i write one letter to each CRA listing ALL of the addresses that i want removed or do I send ONE LETTER AT A TIME, with an address for removal in each letter?

    - How long does it take to have them removed?

    - How often should I be ordering copies of my reports in order to see my progress?

Thanks again to all of you.

I would use one letter for all the addresses for each bureau.Enclose in the letter a copy of your driver's license & social security card. Also enclose a bill or something to that effect with your correct address. It will take up to thirty days for this dispute to complete. Since you are just starting,I would enroll in True Credit trimerge services. It allows you to pull all three reports every 24 hours and it also has an alert system to email you of changes in your reports.Go to truecredit.com for more info on it.

    wow...Thanks Cajun1969

Thanks for the advice. if you enroll in the truecredit.com (and then check your reports frequently) does your score get penalized for frequent inquaries?

    Thanks again.

Your score does not get penalized at all from pulling your own report.

You can save a little bit monthly if you go to Walmart.com and then their financial section and they have a link to TrueCredit. I think it is $11.21 monthly through Walmart.

Correct no point loss for pulling your own reports and you get the added benefit of bumpage. As you pull every day you will eventually bump the hard inquiries off of your Transunion & Equifax reports.
