Hello all I am a newbie.

I did my homework and read about 150 older post before asking my question so hopefully this hasn't been covered.

I am going to be unemployed as of 10/31 and live in CA. I read on TU' site that I qualify for a free report if I am unemployed. Do I need to send proof? Ans should it come from the unemployment agency showing eligablity or from my employer.

Also the other agencies didn't have any info re: free reports on their sites. Will a generic letter with the proof be enough for EX and EQ?

Thanks so much for your advice. I have learned alot already.

I get these regularly and never send any proof, or specific details. I don't think they bother checking, here is the form letter I have used, which as never failed me yet!

    Dear Sir/Madam:

I have recently been denied credit after the creditor reviewed a report from yourselves. I am therefore writing to request a copy of that report pursuant t o the provisions of the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

    My name is....
    My address is .....
    My date of birth is.....
    My SSN is ......

I look forward to hearing from you shortly.

    Sincerely....

You should be able to telephone each CRA and select the touchtone number that corresponds with "You are unemployed or seeking employment" or something to that effect. I've successfully used the "Been denied credit, employment, etc...within the past 60 days" option and gotten free reports too.
