Im hoping to get some information on where to send a pay for deletion letter too. I knew i had some issues with my credit report for a while now. Some charge offs. I'm in the position to pay off this debt but i would like to first try to get it off of my credit report completely if i agree to pay them.. So i see that i have a charge off from Dell on my report but when i called them i was told it was sent to a collection agency. The collection agency isn't listed on my report. So if i send the letter to them it will do me no good correct? At the same time if i try to deal with Dell again it won't do me any good either b/c they sold the account correct? So i'm confused. Thanks in advance for the help.
I've been seeing a lot of posts about "pay for delete" lately, and the short answer to all of them is this: Pay for delete is very unlikely to work for most people. Of course, this is my opinion, YMMV, and all that. The creditor and/or collection agency is under zero obligation to accept a pay for delete. Your first thought might be that a CA would rather accept a $100 PFD than nothing at all, but that may not be the case. A CA may just as well decide it's bad practice to accept ANY PFDs and rather "lose" that $100 (which in reality may only cost them a buck or two). My answer to your question then is that I don't think it really makes a difference, but I would attempt it with Dell first. The worst that will happen is that they'll say "no, you need to contact the CA". It's my guess that the CA will also say "no". Not to sound harsh, it's just that this "pay for delete" thing seems on the fast-track to becoming one of those Internet Bad Advice topics (like the folks who still insist there's a 30-day time limit to validation, or who say writing "paid in full" on a $1 check will settle your debts).
