I just noticed this morning on my wifes credit report that OSI Collection Services pulled a hard inquiry on November 29, 2005. I also see that they pulled a soft inquiry June 28, 2005. What is up with that? We have never had a collection and have no idea who would be trying to collect. I didn't think we owed anyone. It is only on her report, not mine. The only thing we can think of is back in June we fell 30 days late on our house, and we just fell 30 days late in November too but have brought it back current each time. Why would they of pulled a soft in June and a hard now? Thanks in advance.
I think OSI collects on student loans. Did you have any Federal student loans that went into default?
That's it. She called OSI and they said it was for a student loan. We then called Sallie Mae and the lady she talked to said her account was fine, a little past due but they weren't worried about it. I think she hit 60 days past due and it triggered something. The other time they did a soft inquiry was at the same time she also hit 60 days past due. If I remember right that time we got a letter in the mail threatening to get it caught up or we would default. It was probably from OSI. I once back in 2002 hit 120 days past on a sallie mae loan and it was never sent to collections that I know of.
