Does anyone have a phone number used to cancel AOL. I had a trial period expire and do not want my credit card billed. Thanks for any info.
Cancel your AOL service If you're tired of the high-priced, low-end service you get from America Online but you can't seem to shake them, follow these steps: 1) Sign on to your AOL account. 2) Click on the "Keyword" box in the upper right corner and type the word "cancel" when the entry box appears. A screen will appear with a toll-free number and mailing address. If you are unable to log on, call 888-265-8008 for cancellation help. 3) Call the number and follow the instructions to cancel your membership. A representative should be able to cancel your account within a few minutes. (DSL accounts may take longer) 4) Ask that a confirmation of your cancellation be e-mailed to you if you have another account, faxed or mailed to your home address.
They'll offer you everything under the sun to stay with them, usually like 3-6 months of free service. If you do cancel be sure and get the repersenatives name you talked to, as well as their ID#. A confirmation by fax or snail mail would be great also. AOL is known for continued billing after a account has been cancelled.
You have to call them to cancel. Then you get a sales person. They have an option for every reason you can think of.
hahah, I canceled AOL on three different occasion and wow its fun everytime. I want to stress point #4 from the first reply.. Get a confirmation #..
We have had AOL for 9 years, every now and the I call and ask about suspending the account in relation to other offers we have received. Just received a six month credit. Regardless of how you veiw AOL - I like a company that will try to keep your business. Wish verizon wireless was as aggressive.
After you cancel, be very careful if you have kids. AOL will send you a notice after cancellation that says if you ever want to sign up again, all you have to do is to sign on to the AOL screen, you do not have to call. Then, when you do go online with your new provider, a little AOL box will pop up asking if you want to go to AOL. If your kid clicks yes, you are signed up automatically. AOL is next to impossible to erase from a computer. It is always hiding there somewhere, waiting to screw you. I think demonic would be the right word for it.
Re: Re: OT: How to cancel AOL. Can't you go to "SEARCH-FILE" on the start up menu and type AOL and trash 100% of what you find???
the reason they give you a credit, or free time, when you request to cancel is because after the free period most people forget to call them back to cancel. AOL then hits the credit card with another charge, and you have to start the process of cancelling them all over again. not to mention unauthorized charges they hit you with. every person i have known of to use aol has had one heck of a time getting out from under them. when i cancelled 1 1/2 years ago, they gave me 3 free months to stay. after the 3 month free period i called them back to cancel. they said ok. 6 months later i got a bill for 96.00 from them. they said i owed it for the months i was supposed to have "free" service. actually, i had paid my credit cards off and closed them out, so aol wasn't able to charge them, which they would have done.
Use a credit card that offers ONE TIME CREDIT CARD NUMBERS... "IF" you don't like it after 30 days "IF" you can CANCEL...fine...if not...they can't charge the credit card...
