Just reinstalled I.E. 5.5 on my desktop, and installed on top of it SP2 (service package 2) and an update to a security flaw in SP2. However, when I go to help, then "about internet explorer" under Cipher Strength it says : 0-bit, instead of the usual 128-bit. Anyone know how to correct this?

Mine says 128 bit. Did I miss something?

It's supposed to be 128-bit. However, when I installed the SP2, something went wrong. According to the info Dave provided me with ( thanks dave! ) it has something to do with that new patch. So... I've got to go through a whole routine to restore 128-bit protection. In the meantime I've downloaded Netscape 6.2 as a backup ( actually what I'm using now ) I have still yet to find where I can download IE 5.5. I can't download 6.0 because this particular desktop is running Win 95, and 6.0 requires Win 98 or newer.

    or is it this?

NOTE :You cannot download the 128-bit encryption from the site if you have 5.5 installed.

Instead you need to run the file "ie501dom.exe" located in the "C:\Windows Update Setup Files" folder. You may need to first reinstall IE 5.5.

Thanks Breeze, I had been to that link before and after I downloaded the high encryption package it says it only works with I.E. 5.01 with SP6 or Win NT. Ugh.... and Netscape for some reason beyond my comprehesion, is requiring more RAM than I.E. is for the same tasks, and this computer only has 32 megs of RAM. If anyone knows where microsoft hides a downloadable version of I.E. 5.5 on their site, please post the link.

Thanks Breeze, I'll give that one a try as well. I've never had any problems with I.E.'s speed, in fact before today I've had no problems whatsoever. Of course I had to screw that up by downloading the service package 2 update.

It's times like these that I'm glad I use Apple computers. We apple users don't ever have any of these type of problems. Right Doc?

    No gloating!! :p

Besides, I have to run insurance company software - Apple is not an option for me.

I have a power pc mac, and a regular mac, but I don't know much about using them. I just use the power pc for playing cd's.

BTW, I still haven't straightened this mess out. Now I can't even uninstall I.E. ( I got a free AOL cd with I.E. on it )

Highlight the entire line. Not sure why entire thing isn't hyperlinked.
