My wife was out and I was putting the kids to sleep. I came downstairs and there is a phone message. The message said "MRS. Voodochild, I am going to place that order we talked about a few days ago, only I need the money. I have an old credit card number of yours. If I don't hear back from you by ten, I 'll just use that one, OKAY?.

    HOW would you guys react?
Why is this person saving cc numbers?

Personally, I would call the person back and tell them that not only do you object, but because of their underhanded way of doing business, you no longer want to place this order - or any other orders with her.

    The nerve of some people.

To me it is the equivalent of "I found your house key you lost last week. If you don't come get it by 6 pm, I am just going to move into your house and take it over."

Well, Mary Kay and Avon and Tupperware and all of the others like that tend to be pretty informal when they get to the end user level.

Posting as the female half of DemPooches, if I knew this person, if she was the one I normally bought from, I'd appreciate the fact that she kept my info on file. (Several of our business vendors do the same thing on a much bigger level, so to us it's a normal thing.)

BUT, with that being said. In this exact circumstance, I might call her and ask if she would touch base next time and wait for me to confirm with her before she used the card rather than taking the "if I don't hear from you I'll go ahead and run it approach."

If you had been out of town and didn't get the message till tomorrow, and if you didn't want her to use that card, what then?

Bottom line, I probably wouldn't be concerned, but would make sure the "Mary Kay Lady" had the card number on file that I wanted her to use in the future and then I'd place my orders knowing she already had the info she needed.

(I'd probably also have a little conversation about how she secures this kind of info...and if I felt uncomfortable about the responses, THAT would cause me to ask her to remove my card number from her records and get it on a "per order" basis.)

My guess is she keeps it on a paper order form in a filing cabinet.
