For those of you who eBay and use PayPal...BEWARE...I got an email from "PayPal" yesterday telling me to I needed to update my info. I followed the link and started entering the info. The first thing I noticed was there was no SSL lock in the lower right corner. I scrolled down and the form asked me to verify my credit card by providing my bank's routing number, account number, ATM PIN, and mother's maiden name. Although this email really didi look like the PayPal site, I immediately reported it to PayPal and they responded that it was indeed a fraudulent email.

Just a public service announcement for anyone else who might receive something like this. I screwed up my credit in the past, but the point is I DID IT. I'm sure as h*ll not going to let someone else do it for me!

I swear I get one of these PayPal 'emails' a week...and they seem to be stupid enough to send them to the email address I don't even use in connection with my PayPal account. Good idea for spreading the word!

Welcome to Identity Theft 101! It's great that you spotted the lack of the SSL "lock". Also, the URL should start with https: - the "s" stands for "secure", and as far as I know, that's a real tough one to fake.

The shame about these scams is that there's someone out there who will actually respond to such emails. All it takes is just a few unsuspecting users to make these guys rich!

Thanks for the info! And check out those new CITI identity theft commercials - hilarious!
