I am thinking about switching job, something closer to home.. well some of these places are asking for Salary History... I think this is sort of rediculous.. I guess they want to see how much they will have to pay me?? Some of these are also saying that the resume will not be considered w/o ALL the info they are requesting... What do you guys think??

Tell them you make what you think the NEW CO. should pay you. If you make $50K now and want to make $60K. Then tell them you make $60K and they'll offer $65K.

I did this one year ago and recieved a $20K per year INCREASE!

That makes sense, but I guess I should add that I am expecting a possible pay-cut... which is ok with me, since it will allow me to do other things that I want to with the new job... so I dont want them to think.. he wants too much money .. for us..... make sense?

That does make sense. Is your current pay consistent with what others make in your industry? Are you changing industries? It may be best to make up your mind as to what U WANT TO MAKE and use that figure. Sounds like are more concerned with enjoying your work, rather than making more money(I think that's great!) If you really think your going to have to take a paycut, then you may have to LIE and say you make less than you do.

Having said all this, its probably best to just tell the truth. Do what you think is best to get an interview! That's your ultimate goal!

Thanks! I am just going to list what I make.. they can decide what to do with it... you really helped me to put this in perspective.

Also, be prepared to explain yourself. Why are you willing to take a cut in pay? Here is an excerpt from a book I have titled "the Unofficial Guide to Acing the Interview"(Michelle Tullier):

"If salary is the issue - and if you don't mind earning whatever they can pay, even if it is less than what you are making - then deal with it by building a strong case for why you don't mind taking a salary cut. Discuss how you are making a career transition and that you are well aware that you have to make some sacrifices to get where you want to be. Let them know you have given this careful thought - perhaps even worked out a new budget. Also, let them know what motivates you BESIDES MONEY, so they'll see that you would find other rewards from the work and thus not leave the new job after a few months in search of a bigger paycheck"

Good luck! I commend you for being willing to take a paycut. I only say this because I am the opposite. My focus is to reach my "GOAL" salary. I wish you the best!
