There's a new email virus out that I scanned before opening. It's an attachment titled:

    Name of File: PRELOAD.EXE
    Type of File: application/octet-stream
Scan Result: Virus W32.Magistr.24876@mm found and cleaned.

Don't open the attachment. I've gotten it twice tonight. Does anyone know of a free trial of virus protection?

No, for me. The virus was sent to Yahoo! Mail, where I have the option to scan the attachment before opening. It was also sent to my Outlook Express, but I have Hotmail set up to get those messages. I opened the email, but not the attachment in Hotmail. I thought I recognized the name, as it came from rochester.rr.com. (where my outlook express gets my mail from). But then when Yahoo got it too, I realized that I didn't.

    Thanks! :)

These things usually come from someone who has your name in their address book. The trojan part scans the victim's harddrive for email addresses, and then mails itself out to each one. Get it? You think this person sent it but they didn't. They won't know what you're talking about when you mention the attachment they sent you.
