I am in the process of setting up a web page for my company. The purpose of it is to have somewhere where a customer can go to get more information about the company. It is not intended to be used to draw new customers to the company.

My question is this. Once the site is up and running, if I give a person the web site address, will he be able to type it into a search engine and find me? In other words, if I have a web site address, can I be found?

As I said, the only people who will be looking for me will be people I give the web site address to.

    Thanks

    Hi,

I hope I am understanding your question.

Would certain keywords embedded in your page help?

If your page was about fishing, people going to a search engine might type a word like bass.

Your page should have keywords in it like: rods, reels, ponds, water, boating, boats, sunscreen, bass, salmon, etc....)

Another words, load your html up with keywords that have anything and everything to do with your subject, even if it sounds goofy :)

You could also try submissions to search engines.

    Is that what you mean?

I guess I was not clear. I am not interested in reaching the general public. I don't care if most people ever find me.

What I want is the person that I do business with to be able to find me on the web. If I give them my web address, and they type it into MSN or Google or some other search engine, will they find my web site? Or, do I have to do something to register it with these search engines?

    Hi,

I'm sorry, I misunderstood your question.

I went to google and typed in www.howstuffworks.com and the link for the site came up along with information about it.

I also typed in www.edmunds.com and the link for the site came up along with information about it.

I understand what you mean now.

I know there is a way to submit sites to the search engines, but I couldn't find anything on Google's site for submission of sites.

    Sorry, I thought I could help :(

    Good luck though.........

I understand about your not caring that a gazillion people be able to find your site from a search engine, but the process is the same... embed the relevant keywords in your search tags.

Another option for "anyone" ( including the customers you care about) to find you, is to do a whois search.

    Hope that helps.
