Be careful sending money online. Western Union will put a hold on your credit/debit card, but WILL NOT send the money until they are able to call you back at your home phone number for "verification". **That is the phone number on record with your credit card.**

My stepdaughter had a fire in her apt. complex. She needed to get a hotel room for a few nights - and had no where to stay.

We sent money online and Western Union told us it was being sent and put a hold on our Visa. What they didn't tell us is that they would not release the money to her until they could call us at our home phone number to verifiy the transaction.

We were on vacation in Las Vegas at the time.

Consequently, our stepdaughter had to sleep in her car in 27 degree weather and was almost robbed.

When we called to complain, some moron supervisor said they aren't allowed to tell you that they need to verify with you at home for security reasons.

Be careful if you use them online - the money is not sent instantly like it is when you do it in person.

I send online to Mexico monthly. I have to call in once I finish the transaction, but the money has always been made available in MX within minutes.

BTW they are in some sort of class action right now, it might be a problem there.

That is true. I learned the way you did. I only had to use them once to send money to my mother. When I hung up the phone they called me right back. They never informed me they would call me back to verify. When I asked the guy why he was calling me he said they've had a major problem with scams so now they verify the home number is correct.
