ok i got on here today... i have pulled a copy of my 3 crs ... off creditreport.com
I have 10 negative things...totalling abt 7294.00 the lowest is 63(why the hell didnt i pay this) and the highest is 4331 after all charges and fees...

i was going to pay them all... in one fell swoop... but then a friend referred me here... and advised me not to pay cuz my score wont go up.... after reading this i called credit report.com and disputed my names... they had my maiden name on there... the guy didnt want to do it cuz that is a legal name but did it anyway... then i disputed all my old addresses... same story...

then i disputed verbally to him... a credit cuz it says credit balance.. 590 but then it was in collection and said past due 20 he asked me if i had payed it to 20 i said no i wanted to dispute cuz it was innacurate info... will this put it on as owing 590 or take it off after 30 days... also i cant dispute to the credit cos on this one cuz it wont give address what did i do wrong.. and explain my steps i should take to dispute as i am flamboozled by all of this

After the inital 30 days why do i give them 30 more then 15 more to do it... i thought after 30 they had to remove it

First of all, you need to examine every line of each report.

You don't just dispute the debt, you dispute some aspect of it, such as the balance or the date.

So, your first step is to take a deep breath and start really looking at the reports in detail. Itemize everything that is wrong.

Dispute by mail--certified mail, return receipt requested. You want to keep copies of everything and establish a paper trail.

If the report you are disputing from is your free annual report, they have 45 days from the date they receive it to either come back and say it's verified or remove it. The law (FACTA) that gave you the right to the free report every year also gave the CRAs 45 days to handle disputes from those annual reports. If you are disputing from a report you purchased, they only have 30 days to respond.

I would only dispute 3 or 4 items at a time. But as I said, make sure you are disputing some specific piece of information.

That's a subtle difference that I had not picked up on. Thanks for sharing that. I have perfect credit and a lot of time into research on various issues having to do with FDCPA and what can and can't be done (as a result of my successful lawsuit against transunion for refusing to remove a neg tradeline after following the proper dispute process). But I'm still learning everyday.
