Are paid charge off accounts worst than not being paid?

The difference between paid and unpaid is with unpaid you didn't have to pay for getting the shaft.

The common reason why PCO's are considered to be more negative, is that in 99% of the times, the date of status or similar is updated to the date it was given PCO status.

Which would be a more recent date than the CO status, which would give the PCO a more nagative impact on your score, since it is more recent activity.

This is why you'll see everyone to advise on trying to negotiate for deletion on payment, instead of just updating on payment.

Sure wish I'd known all this 2 years ago BEFORE I paid the CA. Having a time trying to get them off myself.

DS has a huge amount of CO's and I told him DO NOT PAY!

A charge off is A derog simply because it's a charge off.Paying it does not change the fact it was charged off.
