I have an account that was included in my Chapter 7 but is listing as a paid chargeoff on my credit reports. Is this better or worse than being listed as included in BK? Thanks.
If you are planning on getting your BK deleted, you might want it to read discharged in BK. Once you get your BK deleted, you dispute the TL with an innocent "WHAT BK?" I don't think it matters, pointwise. However, you can dispute the TL as it stands. Look up OC, validate, etc. You validate w/OC stating it's inaccurate and submit disputes to CRAs when you get the green card.
A paid charge-off is a bigger ding than 'included in bk'. However, if you dispute it as 'included in bk,' you are admitting to them that there was a bk. I would go 'not mine.' They'll probably update it to IIB when you do.
If it's listed as a charge off, I do believe it is a bigger ding, however, remember a charge is still considered a valid debt, and "incl in BK" is not. So, technically the OC can still come after you if they did not update their records as "incl in BK". I think that some OC's do this purposely, hoping that you don't find out, just to punish you more for what you did. It sucks! Anyway, at some point you'd have to prove it was incl in the BK. It can also look very bad to potential lenders and creditors with a chrg-off on the CR. I would dsipute it as "not mine". You may get lucky because some OC's change account numbers for accounts incl in a BK, in order to write them off. They may have no record of it and it'll get deleted.
