Hello, I'm a newbie. Before I came to this site, I paid a medical collection in full to the collections agency.
I got a letter from them on their letterhead and signed by their collections officer that on cashing my check that they would mark my account as paid as agreed AND that they would remove the listing entirely from my credit report.
Need less to say they didn't do that. Instead they marked it as 'paid in full'. Since its still on my credit report and very recent, it dropped my score drastically.
I sent them a follow up letter asking them to remove the listing, but they haven't repiled. I've basically been ignored.
What are my options, should I dispute it with the CRA as not mine or should i sent the CRA the documentation showing that the CA agreed to remove it , when they got paid but haven't done so.
    Please help!!!

What exactly is the wording on the letter you have?

I think you really need to light a fire under the CA because the CRAs, in my experience, will have no problem with the way it is currently reported, which is accurate, as it is Paid.

I will look for the letter and post the exact wording here.

The letter that they signed says the following:
'The credit report states that I owe $X. I will pay the full amount owed if CA will report on my account â?? Account closed -Paid as agreedâ? AND you ask the 3 credit reporting agencies to remove the listing entirely from my report.

Working together to rectify this situation will benefit us both. Please sign this letter within 30 days and return it to me showing that you acknowledge the above terms

When I receive the signed letter, I will send you a check for $X. Accepting and cashing this check will constitute on your part full acceptance of the terms above.'

They did sign the above letter and returned it to me.
However they did not remove the listing and have not replied to my follow up letter asking for it to be removed.

You can sue them for breach of contract.

    ==================
There is no such thing as a paid as agreed collection account.

    Thanks for your reply.
I guess that I will have to sue them as a last resort, however, would the state attorneys general take up a case like this and advocate on my behalf.

Does anyone think disputing it with the CRA would lead to it being removed?

    Re: Re: Paid collection

Dispute with CRA as not mine. That's all you need to say.
Don't mention you have an agreement with the CA to delete.
